Sound Tip

Due to a recent high school flash related project done well, and I'm surprised I get SO many opportunities to animate for school, I have decided to educate you on a beginner's way to record very good sounding vocals.

All you need is an iphone or ipod touch and the mail app on it set up, along with a sound editing software that allows .m4a files (I just use audacity)

Step 1: Eliminate echo or room noise by either putting non-sound-reflecting materials on the walls or do what i did and take two pillows and conceal yourself in a sort-of-makeshift cubby or box.

Step 2: Open up the voice memo app and record your dialogue.

Step 3: Email the lines to yourself and download them onto your computer (Once you've emailed them by iphone, open them up on a computer)

Step 4: Edit the sound clips using any technique you know to clean up audio (I remove the white noise in the background, compress, and equalize it using audacity.)

Step 5: Save/Export either individually or set it up into one wave file (or mp3 if you so choose).

Step 6: Import into flash and animate!!!

Happy Flash Movie-ing!!!
